Hard Work

Chikankari is a traditional form of hand-embroidery from Lucknow, India, known for its delicate and intricate designs. This embroidery technique is usually done with white thread on fine cotton or silk fabric, though modern variations have also introduced colorful threads and other materials. The designs often feature floral patterns, geometric motifs, and sometimes even motifs inspired by nature or Mughal art. Common Chikankari Embroidery Stitches: Murri – Resembling rice grains, this stitch is used to create small, delicate patterns. Phanda – A knot stitch that adds a raised effect, often used to create floral patterns. Jali – This is a net-like stitch used to create a lace effect. Tepchi – A running stitch that is used to form long lines or borders. Bakhia – A shadow work stitch, creating a shadow effect on the fabric. Chikan – The base stitch that forms the foundation of most designs.
